Hiroko To was born in Fukuoka, Japan. Her interest in photography developed in her early childhood when she began to learn about composition, colors, and light through family experiences with photography, and visits to museums and galleries with her parents.
While she was studying photography at Laney College in Oakland, California, she developed a deep understanding of Kandinsky's theories of the relationships between line, point, plane, color, shape, and texture.
Hiroko now travels back and forth between the Bay Area and Japan where she continues to create breathtaking photographs.
